Cymdeithas Cyfeillio Rhuthun Brieg  -   Ruthin Briec Twinning Society

Over the years a number of groups and clubs have made the trip between Finisterre and the Vale of Clwyd. Here is a brief summary.

Football - in 1995 the youth team from Ruthin Town Football Club visited Brittany for fixtures against Langolen and Briec. These were close and competitive matches, with Ruthin just taking the honours. Two years later, Langolen Football Club brought their senior team to Ruthin - again, the Welsh got the win. The following year, Ruthin repeated the achievement in Langolen.

Ruthin Choir - this unforgettable visit to Briec by the best mixed choir in Wales took place in May 2003. Brilliant performances to large appreciatve audiences in Briec, Quimper and Pleyben were accompanied by some hilarious partying with their hosts. This was not the first visit, however, as the choir had also entertained the people of Briec in 1994.

Bagad Briec and Gwen ha Du came to Ruthin in August 1994 and provided a feast of traditional Breton music and dancing. They were back in May 1996 as the star attractions of Ruthin Festival. Separate visits brought them to the Festival again - Gwen ha Du in 1998, and the Bagad in 1999. In fact it was through the Twinning, and the desire to see these groups preforming in Ruthin, that Ruthin Festival was established. From these origins, the Festival has grown to become an independent and thriving event.

Farmers - In 1994, 35 Welsh farmers visited their counterparts in Briec. During September 1996 a group of 32 Breton farmers visited Ruthin to share experiences and interests with Vale of Clwyd farmers. They enjoyed a number of events including a 'Noson Llawen' in a barn at Glascoed.

Walkers - in September 2002 , a group of 20 Briecois visited Ruthin to undertake a number of walks in the area, along with their Ruthin friends. The highlight was a great day on Snowdon in magnificent weather. After going up the Pyg track, Christiane's birthday cake was enjoyed on the summit!

Majorettes - In August 1994 a group of 44 from the Ruthin majorettes - the Majestics - visited Briec and participated in several festive events.

Students - between 1994 and 1998 pupils from Ysgol Brynhyfryd enjoyed their foreign-language exchange visit with the two 'Collèges' of Briec. More recently, the visits have been made in both directions by individual students or small groups, either for work experience or simply to improve language ability, while making new friends.

Folk dance - in 2006 the Morris group 'Clerical Error' performed in Briec and this was a hugely enjoyable stay for both visitors and hosts.

... and in addition there are the many friendships which have developed, leading to many more

Dros y blynyddoedd mae nifer o grwpiau a chlybiau wedi gwneud y daith rhwng Penn ar Bed (Finisterre) a Dyffryn Clwyd. Dyma grynodeb byr.

Pel-droed - yn 1995 ymwelodd tim ieuenctid Clwb Pel-droed Rhuthun a Llydaw ar gyfer gemau yn erbyn Langolen a Brieg. Roedd rhain yn gemau clos a chystadleuol, gyda Rhuthun ychydig ar y brig. Dwy flynedd yn ddiweddarach daeth Clwb Pel-droed Langolen a'u tim hyn i Ruthun - eto, y Cymry enillodd. Y flwyddyn ganlynol enillodd Rhuthun yn Langolen.

Cor Rhuthun - digwyddodd yr ymweliad bythgofiadwy hwn gan y cor cymysg gorau yng Nghymru ym mis Mai 2003. Perfformiadau gwych i gynulleidfaoedd mawr a gwerthfawrogol yn Brieg, Kemper a Pleyben ynghyd a phartio digrif tu hwnt gyda'u gwestywyr. Ond nid dyma'r ymweliad cyntaf, fodd bynnag, gan i'r cor diddanu pobl Briec yn 1994 hefyd.

Daeth Bagad Briec and Gwen ha Du came i Ruthun ym mis Awst 1994 a rhoddi gwledd o gerddoriaeth a dawnsio traddodiadol Llydewig. Daethant yn ol ym mis Mai 1996 fel ser Gwyl Rhuthun. Daeth ymweliadau ar wahan a hwy yn ol i'r Wyl eto - Gwen ha Du yn 1998, a'r Bagad yn 1999. Mewn ffaith roedd drwy'r gefeillio, a'r dymuniad i weld y grwpiau hyn yn perfformio yn Rhuthun, y sefydlwyd Gwyl Rhuthun. O'r cychwyn hyn mae'r Wyl wedi tyfu i fod yn ddigwyddiad annibynnol a ffyniannus.

Ffermwyr - yn 1994, ymwelodd 35 o ffermwyrs Cymreig a'u cyfatebwyr yn Brieg. Yn ystod mis Medi 1996 a ymwelodd grwp o 32 o ffermwyr Llydewig a Rhuthun i rannu profiadau a diddordebau gyda ffermwyr Dyffryn Clwyd. Mwynhawyd sawl digwyddiad gan gynnwys 'Noson Lawen' mewn sgubor yn Glascoed.

Cerddwyr - ym mis Medi 2002 , daeth grwp o 20 Briecois i Ruthun i wneud nifer o deithiau cerdded yn yr ardal, ynghyd a'u ffrindiau o Ruthun. Yr uchafbwynt oedd diwrnod i'w gofio ar Yr Wyddfa mewn tywydd bendigedig. Ar ol mynd i fyny llwybr Pen y Gwryd mwynhawyd cacen pen-blydd Christiane ar y copa!

Majorettes - ym mis Awst 1994 ymwelodd grwp of 44 o'r Ruthin Majorettes - y Majestics - a Brieg a chymryd rhan mewn sawl digwyddiad.

Myfyrwyr - rhwng 1994 a 1998 mwynhaodd disgyblion o Ysgol Brynhyfryd eu ymweliad gyfnewid iaith-dramor gyda'r ddau 'Collèges' yn Brieg. Yn fwy diweddar gwnaed ymweliadau i'r ddau gyfeiriad gan fyfyrwyr unigol neu grwpiau bach, un ai ar gyfer profiad gwaith neu dim ond i wella eu sgiliau iaith, tra'n gwneud ffrindiau newydd.

Dawnsio Gwerin - yn 2006 perfformiodd y grwp Morus 'Clerical Error' yn Brieg ac roedd hyn yn arhosiad dymunol dros ben i'r ymwelwyr a'u gwestywyr.

... hefyd mae llawer i gyfeillgarwch wedi datblygu gan arwain at lawer mwy o ymweliadau teuluol a phersonol.

Who takes part in the Twinning visits and events?

Anybody! This is NOT about people in public office, or 'the great and the good', having a good time at other people's expense (in fact we have to raise almost all of the costs ourselves)! It is not an 'official' group in any sense - it is for you and everyone else who lives in or close to Rhuthun. So if you like a very good time and have any interest in Brittany, or France in general, this could be for you.

There is a welcome awaiting any individual, couple or family who would like to have a go at participation. You don't necessarily have to host a Breton family, and you don't have to go to Briec on every trip - the level of participation is entirely up to you and there are many who have enjoyed a 'one-off' visit. And don't worry about language difficulties - we try to cater for all abilites.

We are also keen to hear from any individuals, groups or organisations who might :

.....want to take part in a visit to Briec

.... want to host visitors from briec

.... want an exchange visit with their Briec counterparts

.... organise sporting fixtures with teams from the Pays Glazik

.... put on musical or drama performances - or art displays - in Briec. (Or host the equivalent over here.)

.... develop business links

.... take part in work experience or offer a work experience place (over 18) in the Ruthin area.

.... join in our social events

.... like to join the organising committee
