2014
This year it was Rhuthun’s turn to welcome our friends from Briec and a party of 26, including a family of three, arrived on the afternoon of Tuesday 27 May for a 4-night visit. Our guests were welcomed by the Mayor of Rhuthun, Cllr Stephen Beach, and the Chairman of the Twinning Association, Emrys Wynne. They were then introduced to their hosts at Café R where they enjoyed an evening meal with their hosts and members of the Twinning Committee
The Twinning Committee had arranged a programme of events for our friends and on the Wednesday they visited St Giles Church, Wrexham the Craft Centre at Minera and Bersham. Their evening meal was with their hosts.
On Thursday they visited several locations in the Vale of Clwyd, Llanrhaeadr Church and Anvil Pottery, the Welsh Language Centre and Radio Museum at Denbigh followed by a walking tour of Denbigh and the castle. An evening meal was enjoyed at Brookhouse Mill, Denbigh.
The highlight of the visit was probably the visit to Snowdonia on the Friday when the party visited Electric Mountain and the Padarn Country Park at Llanberis. That evening, following the annual meeting of the two Twinning Committees at Canolfan Awelon the group were entertained to a meal and concert by Côr Rhuthun. This was, inevitably, followed by community singing culminating in a rendering of our joint national anthems!
Saturday morning was spent in Rhuthun where our guests spending some of their pounds and pence (no euro here!) and were then entertained to a farewell lunch at Canolfan Cae Cymro, Clawddnewydd. Once again the national anthems were sung before our friends left to catch their boat at Plymouth.
Once again a very successful visit.
